A world champion carrying half the course home on his kit — mud to the elbows, rainbow bands still showing through. Head-on and head down, eyes up the road, everything else forgotten.
This is the heaviest paint in the collection: the rider is built entirely from thick, sculptural knife-strokes, mud and muscle and jersey merging into one clotted surface against a field of pale troweled cream. The bands are the only clean colour left — which is rather the point.
